Zoë Kravitz Reflects on Channing Tatum’s “Charisma” Following Their Unexpected Split
Despite recently calling off their engagement, Zoë Kravitz has opened up about her admiration for Channing Tatum’s undeniable charisma.
Appearing on Variety’s Directors on Directors alongside filmmaker Matt Reeves, the 36-year-old actress discussed the process of casting and collaborating with Tatum in Blink Twice, the film she directed, co-wrote and starred in.
Casting Channing Tatum as Slater King
“Channing was the first person I thought of for Slater King,” Kravitz revealed. “I don’t even know why he came to mind, but I just knew.”
She elaborated on her decision, emphasizing Tatum’s unique qualities: “The character needed to be someone you could trust at first glance. Especially because you wouldn’t believe Naomi [Ackie] would get on a plane with someone who exuded immediate menace.”
Kravitz continued, “I wanted to weaponize his charisma—turn it into something we’ve never seen from him before.”
Released in August, Blink Twice tells the story of a group of women experiencing bizarre events after being invited to a private island by a tech billionaire and his wealthy male friends.
A Peaceful Breakup
The interview comes two months after Kravitz and Tatum ended their three-year relationship, which included a year-long engagement.
In late October, sources close to the couple revealed that their split was amicable. “They realized they were at different stages in life,” one insider told. Another noted, “They didn’t see eye to eye and began drifting apart.”
