What Does Pleasure P Want from Lil Wayne?
In a recent video on social media, Pleasure P, the 40-year-old rap artist, voiced his demand for recognition as a co-writer of the famous track “Lollipop” by Lil Wayne. Released in 2008, this hit song became one of Lil Wayne’s biggest hits, and according to Pleasure P, he was a significant co-writer and deserves a share of the song’s earnings.
Pleasure P’s Bold Statement on Instagram Live
During an Instagram Live session last week, Pleasure P openly addressed this issue. He started by saying, “I wrote that song,” while playing the track “Lollipop“. He then listed other co-writers such as Rex Zamor, Mack Maine, and Jim Jonsin but emphasized his key role in the song’s creation. “I need my damn plaque for this song, man… You can do something about this, but no one cares about me anymore,” he stated. Pleasure P further expressed his disappointment about not receiving proper recognition despite his contribution to the song’s success.
Pleasure P Reflects on the Creation of “Lollipop”
Pleasure P went on to explain that, even before his first album was released, he co-wrote the song with Static Major, a fellow collaborator. “My son just got out of prison. It’s like, I don’t have time for this anymore, man. I’m 40 now. Give me what I deserve, man,” he said. Clearly, the lack of recognition and fairness in the music industry is a significant issue for him.
The Search for Fair Earnings from “Lollipop” Success
Not only does Pleasure P seek proper recognition for his writing contributions, but he also expects a fair share of the earnings from the success of “Lollipop“. The track played a huge role in Lil Wayne’s career, being released as the lead single from the album Tha Carter III, his sixth studio album. In 2022, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the song with a Diamond status after it sold over 10 million units in the U.S.
Pleasure P’s Frustration Over Industry Inequity
Pleasure P argues that he was an integral part of the song’s success, stating, “I’m a part of his biggest recording. 1.3 million in the first week,” yet he still has not been able to celebrate the accomplishment. “And I still can’t celebrate that. I want my money. So, what now? $28 million, I don’t have it,” he lamented, expressing his frustration with the lack of fairness in the industry.
