Sara Gilbert Finalizes Divorce from Linda Perry Five Years After Split
Former Roseanne star Sara Gilbert has officially finalized her divorce from singer-songwriter Linda Perry, five years after their initial separation.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, share a nine-year-old son named Rhodes, born in 2015. They parted ways in 2019 after nearly six years together. While reports in late 2021 suggested the divorce had been finalized, it was later revealed that the two had only been legally separated at the time.
However, as of Thursday, December 19, all legal proceedings have been completed, officially dissolving their marriage.
Shared Parenting Responsibilities
In 2021, the couple agreed to share joint custody of Rhodes, a decision reaffirmed in the latest legal documents. Both parents share equal rights and responsibilities for Rhodes’ legal and physical custody.
According to their terms, daily decisions about Rhodes’ upbringing will be the responsibility of the parent he resides with at the time. However, both are legally required to “regularly communicate and share information regarding Rhodes’ care, health, physical and mental well-being, education, and general welfare.”
No Child Support Agreements
Gilbert and Perry both opted not to pursue child support payments during their legal separation, citing an amicable resolution in their breakup. Additionally, the two independently agreed on spousal support and the division of their financial assets, avoiding disputes.
Gilbert initially filed for divorce in December 2019, citing “irreconcilable differences”. She marked August 13 as their date of separation and requested no spousal support for either party.
From Love to a New Chapter
The two first met in 2011 and became engaged in 2013 when Perry proposed in a romantic gesture. They married the following year, surrounded by friends and family.
Reflecting on their split, Perry spoke candidly to Us Weekly, describing it as a natural evolution of life. “This is life, you know. Life happens, and you’re witnessing it,” Perry shared. “I had an incredible journey, and I’m still on an incredible journey. I love her. I admire her. We have a beautiful child together. That journey hasn’t ended—it’s just evolved into something different.”
Gilbert’s Family Life and Career Success
In addition to Rhodes, Gilbert is also a proud mother to Levi Hawk (17) and Sawyer Jane (14), her children from a previous relationship with television producer Allison Adler.
Professionally, Gilbert continues to thrive. In April, she secured a significant pay raise for her role in the hit sitcom The Conners. Gilbert, alongside co-stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, and Lecy Goranson, signed contracts for the show’s fourth season.
Gilbert, Goodman, and Metcalf earned approximately $400,000 per episode, while Goranson received a substantial salary increase over the first three seasons.
The show’s stars also benefit from a percentage of the series’ revenue, a unique arrangement stemming from The Conners being a spin-off of the Roseanne reboot.
A Legacy That Evolves
As Sara Gilbert steps into a new phase of life, her journey exemplifies resilience, growth, and dedication—both as a parent and a professional. Her relationship with Linda Perry, while changed, remains a testament to their shared love and commitment to co-parenting their son.
Their story reflects how endings can become beginnings, evolving into something meaningful as two individuals move forward on their respective paths.
