Young Thug Makes Powerful Return on New Lil Baby & Future Collab: ‘King Spider Back’
Young Thug has officially marked his return to the rap scene with his first new release since being freed from jail. The YSL rapper makes his long-awaited comeback on the track “Dum, Dumb & Dumber,” which appears on Lil Baby’s newly released album, WHAM. The collaboration also features Future, making it a powerhouse trio of Atlanta talent.
On this hard-hitting, Wheezy-produced track, Thugger addresses his two-and-a-half-year stint behind bars, and he does so with the swagger that’s made him a legend in the rap game. He confidently declares, “King Spider back” and reflects on his time in jail, saying, “I don’t even believe I was locked up, for real, for real / I was havin’ my way the whole time, fool.”
The track’s release comes shortly after Thug’s freedom was secured through a plea deal in his long-running YSL RICO case. In typical Young Thug fashion, he teases the track with a defiant tone, commenting on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after his release, “Wham let’s drop one on these rats peter,” referencing Lil Baby’s nickname and subtly throwing shade at the snitching allegations that had surrounded his case.
Lil Baby, a long-time friend and collaborator, responded with love and support for Thug. On his Instagram Stories, Baby shared a video of their 2020 track “We Should”, adding a heartfelt message: “I missed you mf!!!! Welcome home my brudda!” He expressed gratitude for Thug’s health and well-being and wished him nothing but success moving forward.
The Close Call That Almost Took Lil Baby to Jail
In an emotional conversation with Lil Yachty on his A Safe Place podcast, Lil Baby revealed just how close he came to being in the same situation as Thug. The rapper disclosed that he was at Young Thug’s mansion just hours before Thug’s May 2022 arrest. “Thank God I just happened to leave two hours early,” Baby said, reflecting on the close call that had him rethinking his life.
Baby continued, “That’ll fuck your head up more than anything. Like, ‘Damn, I gotta see bro go through this [and] that shit really could have been me.’” The experience clearly left an emotional mark on Lil Baby, especially considering his deep personal connection with Young Thug: “These are n-ggas I grew up with.”
Gunna’s Plea Deal and Snitching Allegations
Meanwhile, Gunna, another YSL artist and one of Thug’s close peers, has also faced controversy following his plea deal in 2022. The decision led to rampant snitching accusations, and Lil Baby even voiced his opinion on the matter, pointing out the significant differences in how both Gunna and Thug handled their legal situations.
Despite the challenges and rumors, Young Thug’s return on “Dum, Dumb & Dumber” signals that the YSL movement remains strong, with his collaboration alongside Lil Baby and Future proving his influence in both the rap game and his close-knit community of friends and collaborators. Stay tuned for more from Young Thug as he continues to shake up the industry with new music, powerful collaborations, and an unshakable attitude.
