Whatt ! Ice Spice Sued for Allegedly Stealing “In Ha Mood” From Another New York Rapper

Ice Spice is facing a legal battle over her hit single “In Ha Mood” after being accused of copying the track from another New York rapper.

According to TMZ, Brooklyn-based rapper D.Chamberz (real name Duval Chamberlain) claims that Ice Spice lifted multiple elements of her popular song, including the beat, lyrics, hook, and rhyme structure, from his track “In That Mood,” which was released in January 2022.

The Allegations

D.Chamberz asserts that “In That Mood” was out for a full year before Ice Spice dropped “In Ha Mood” in January 2023 as part of her debut EP Like..?. He also claims that the track was played on New York radio and that he worked as a DJ in the city—suggesting that Ice Spice and her producer RiotUSA had ample opportunity to hear the song before creating their own version.

The lawsuit is far-reaching, with Chamberz reportedly seeking: 50% of Ice Spice’s publishing rights for “In Ha Mood”, A share of all revenues generated by the song, Additional damages for copyright infringement

The Success of “In Ha Mood”

Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood” has been a major success since its release:

  • The track has racked up almost 170 million streams on Spotify
  • Its music video has garnered 45 million views on YouTube
  • Ice Spice even performed the hit live on Saturday Night Live in 2023

The lawsuit has yet to receive a public response from Ice Spice or RiotUSA, though comparisons between the two songs have already sparked debate due to alleged similarities in their beat and rhyme patterns.

A Meteoric Rise to Fame

Ice Spice has enjoyed an unprecedented ascent since her viral breakout hit “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022, which took over TikTok and catapulted her to stardom. By 2023, she became one of the most-searched artists globally, ranking as the second most Googled musician behind Jason Aldean.

Responding to the media attention, Ice Spice playfully reacted to her Google ranking on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Nosey much?”

However, her rapid success has also sparked criticism, with accusations of being an “industry plant.” Addressing these claims in a recent interview with Variety, the Bronx native shrugged off the speculation: “A lot of people have thrown that in my face — like, ‘Oh, I’ve never seen anything happen so quickly.’ … I just let people believe whatever they want to believe, to be honest. I don’t really mind all the rumors.”

As Ice Spice continues to enjoy mainstream success, this copyright lawsuit could become a significant legal challenge. Whether D.Chamberz’s claims hold up in court remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Ice Spice’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down as she navigates the highs and controversies of fame.

Collaborations and Grammy Nominations

Despite the controversy, Ice Spice’s resume is growing at lightning speed. In 2023 alone, she:

  • Collaborated with Nicki Minaj on “Princess Diana” and the Barbie soundtrack hit “Barbie World”
  • Partnered with Taylor Swift for the remix of “Karma”
  • Shared a memorable performance at the 2023 MTV VMAs alongside Swift

Her hard work has paid off, with Ice Spice earning four nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards, including:

  • Best New Artist
  • Best Rap Song (Barbie World)
  • Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (Karma with Taylor Swift)
