SZA’s ‘SOS’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200 with ‘Lana’ Deluxe Album Release
SZA has officially made her mark once again as her critically acclaimed SOS album has shot back to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. Originally released in 2022, the album’s return to the top is thanks to the highly anticipated Lana deluxe edition, which dropped on December 20, 2024. The updated version includes 15 new tracks, contributing to a surge in sales and keeping the album at the top of the charts.
Lana Deluxe Pushes SOS Back to the Top
For the Billboard 200 rankings, all versions of the SOS album are combined under one title. The addition of Lana has resulted in 178,000 equivalent units sold in the past week. If Lana were released as a standalone project, it would have still debuted at the No. 1 spot, selling 105,000 units — 5,000 more than Michael Bublé’s Christmas album, which claimed the No. 2 spot on this week’s chart.
This marks 22 months since SOS last topped the Billboard 200, making it the longest gap for an album returning to the top. SZA’s sophomore LP has now spent 11 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and has never left the top 20 since its release.
SZA Celebrates Continued Success
SZA took to Instagram Stories to express her gratitude to her fans for their ongoing support, sharing a heartfelt “thank you” for making SOS a massive success. On X (formerly Twitter), she reflected on her extraordinary year, writing: “If it wasn’t for God’s favor over my life this year, boyyy… My parents are healthy, won 3 Grammys, went number one again, sang on Sesame Street, shot a movie, got a Vogue cover, toured the world, and received a Songwriters Hall of Fame award. WHO JAH BLESS NO MAN CURSE!! NO MAN!!! AMEN.”
Upcoming Updates for Lana
SZA also gave fans a sneak peek into the future of Lana, announcing that the deluxe edition will be updated with new mixes and songs on January 6, when the label resumes work after the holidays. She shared her excitement and gratitude for her patient fans, writing: “Just got word all updated mixes and new songs will be added Jan 6th when the label comes back from holiday. Sorry they can’t do it any sooner 😭. Just wanted to keep y’all in the loop. Thank y’all for your patience.”
Collaborative Album with Kendrick Lamar?
Fans are also eagerly speculating about a potential collaborative album between SZA and Kendrick Lamar. Recently, SZA posted a clip on Instagram Stories, which sparked rumors of a joint project. The clip featured a fan declaring: “We need an entire project of Kendrick and SZA collabs. Because this chemistry is undeniable!” In response, SZA captioned the video: “Gotta ask the big guy [shrug emoji].”
The two TDE labelmates have worked together many times, including on tracks like “Luther” and “30 For 30,” and fans are excited to see them take their partnership to the next level. To add fuel to the fire, the pair will be hitting the road together in 2025 for the Grand National Tour, where they’ll headline arenas across North America.
With an album topping the charts, sold-out tours, and new collaborations on the horizon, 2025 looks to be another monumental year for SZA. Stay tuned!
