Rapper Ice Spice Settles Lawsuit With Brooklyn Rapper

Ice Spice can now breathe a sigh of relief as the legal dispute surrounding her hit single “In Ha Mood” has officially been resolved. On Friday, Nov 20, attorneys for both Ice Spice and Brooklyn rapper Duval “D.Chamberz” Chamberlain filed a stipulation of voluntary dismissal, ending the lawsuit once and for all.

The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled in the future. However, the terms of the settlement were not disclosed, and both sides declined to comment on the matter when approached by Billboard.

Background of the Lawsuit

The legal drama began in January 2023 when D.Chamberz accused Ice Spice of copying elements of his January 2022 track “In That Mood” for her viral hit “In Ha Mood.”

In his lawsuit, Chamberz claimed that Ice Spice and her producer RiotUSA lifted the beat, lyrics, hook, rhyme structure, metrical placement, and overall narrative of his song. He argued that he created his version an entire year before Ice Spice’s track dropped in January 2023 as part of her debut EP, Like..?.

Chamberz also pointed out that he worked as a DJ in New York City, suggesting that Ice Spice and RiotUSA could have heard “In That Mood” through radio play in the city. The Brooklyn rapper sought “no less than 50% of the publishing and revenues” earned from Ice Spice’s track.

Resolution and Moving Forward

While the exact details of the settlement remain under wraps, the dismissal brings a quiet end to the dispute. Ice Spice can now focus on her thriving career without the shadow of legal challenges looming over her breakout single.

“In Ha Mood” has been one of Ice Spice’s standout tracks, helping to solidify her status as one of the most prominent rising stars in hip-hop since she burst onto the scene with “Munch (Feelin’ U)” in 2022.

Ice Spice’s Recent Appearances

Outside of the lawsuit, Ice Spice continues to stay busy with live performances and surprise appearances.

Earlier this week, she made headlines after joining Sexyy Red on stage during a concert in New York City. Ice Spice brought back her signature curly ‘fro as she performed her 2023 hit “Deli”, a moment that thrilled fans in attendance and on social media.

The performance took place during Sexyy Red’s “Sexyy Red 4 President” tour, which faced a rocky start after a few West Coast dates, including Seattle, Portland, and Oakland, were quietly canceled. Amid rumors of low ticket sales, Sexyy Red dismissed the claims, saying on social media: “My fans are buying tickets we’re doin just fine we not cancelling no tour dis cancelling sht all cap.”
