Mike Tyson’s Opinion: “Jake Paul Will Struggle”
Mike Tyson has been very clear about his views on a potential match between Roy Jones Jr and Jake Paul, even though the 55-year-old fighter is eyeing a “lucrative” showdown with the “Problem Child” despite a significant age gap. Tyson believes Roy Jones Jr is “fast enough” to give Jake Paul a run for his money if they ever meet in the ring.
“Iron” Mike Tyson Recovers from Costly Battle with Jake Paul
“Iron” Mike is still recovering from his costly fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul last November, when the 58-year-old former heavyweight boxing champion lost by unanimous decision to the 27-year-old “Problem Child.” Tyson seemed slow out of the gate, struggling with Paul’s speed throughout eight rounds at a packed AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, while viewers worldwide tuned in via Netflix. With this victory, Paul improved his professional record to 11-1, adding Tyson to the growing list of combat sports stars and former UFC champions he has beaten since turning pro in 2020.
The “Problem Child” Considers Multiple Options
Although the content creator appears to be weighing various options—including Conor McGregor, a rematch to “redeem himself” after losing to Tommy Fury, or even challenging 62-2-2 legend Canelo Alvarez for a world title—several other big names have recently expressed interest in stepping into the ring with Paul.
Rumors of Roy Jones Jr vs. Jake Paul in Puerto Rico
Rumors have circulated that Paul would face multi-division world champion Roy Jones Jr in Puerto Rico this March. However, the 55-year-old boxer quickly shot down that speculation on his Instagram account, sharing:
“LISTEN… I like what Jake has done for our sport. I also respect the time and effort he’s put into developing his craft. Because I was Mike’s last opponent before that big exhibition, I might be the most notable choice right now. HOWEVER… I haven’t been approached about any of these allegations, so it is NOT TRUE at this time.”
Nonetheless, Jones Jr is not completely ruling out a fight with his much younger counterpart. He added: “To be honest—like in my prime, I’ve always been just ONE ‘FIRST’ PHONE CALL away.”
Roy Jones Jr Interested in Testing Jake Paul’s Chin
Previously, Roy Jones Jr told TMZ that he’d be willing to “check Paul’s chin” following Paul’s victory over Tyson at the end of 2024. He explained: “That makes me want to get in there and check Jake Paul’s chin. People know he’s got a good punch; I know he can knock anybody out, but I don’t think Mike tested his chin at all. So I wouldn’t mind trying to see if I can touch it—test his chin.”
