A Community Rallies for Relief

The fire on January 9 originated from an electric space heater in a Bronx duplex, leading to a blaze that spread smoke throughout the 19-story building. Many residents were trapped and struggled to escape due to the building’s layout and common false alarms. Despite firefighters’ rescue efforts, several victims perished from smoke inhalation, according to New York’s Chief Medical Examiner.

To further assist, Fat Joe, another Bronx-born artist, has partnered with the New York City Mayor’s Fund to raise additional funds. Fat Joe secured contributions from JAY-Z and DJ Khaled and reached out to other high-profile friends for support. He also hosted a special Hot 97 radio show to raise awareness and financial assistance, with participants like Remy Ma, French Montana, and Slick Rick lending their voices to the cause. “It’s critical that we continue to come together and uplift our Bronx brothers and sisters,” Fat Joe stated.
