Jennifer Lopez Shines in the New Unstoppable Trailer Despite Golden Globes Snub

Jennifer Lopez takes centre stage in the latest trailer for Unstoppable, following the absence of her name from the 2025 Golden Globe nominations. Despite widespread praise for her performance, her portrayal in the sports biopic was overlooked.

Amazon Prime Video released the trailer on Thursday, building anticipation for the film’s streaming debut on January 16.

A Role Rooted in Resilience

In Unstoppable, Lopez stars as Judy Robles, the devoted single mother of Anthony Robles (played by Jharrel Jerome). Anthony is a real-life wrestler born with one leg who defied the odds to become an NCAA champion.

The trailer offers a glimpse into Judy’s unwavering belief in her son, as she encourages him to chase his dreams, despite his disability. “A dreamer is only as big as the dreams they pursue,” Judy tells Anthony. Her words and presence fuel Anthony’s determination as he battles adversity in both his personal life and the wrestling ring.

The trailer also teases intense moments between Lopez and Bobby Cannavale, who portrays Anthony’s abusive stepfather, as well as interactions with Don Cheadle, a two-time Golden Globe winner who plays Anthony’s wrestling coach.

A Story of Triumph

Unstoppable is based on Anthony Robles’s 2012 autobiography of the same name. The film chronicles his remarkable journey, from overcoming physical challenges to achieving glory as the 2011 national champion while competing for Arizona State University.

The movie was produced by Artists Equity, a company co-founded by Lopez’s ex-husband Ben Affleck and actor Matt Damon in 2022. Though Lopez and Affleck filed for divorce in August, their collaboration on this project showcases their shared commitment to meaningful storytelling.

After a limited theatrical release last month — including a challenging opening week in the UK — the film will become available for streaming on Prime Video.

Lopez’s Passionate Performance

When Unstoppable premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, critics praised Lopez’s heartfelt portrayal of Judy Robles. The role resonated deeply with Lopez, who described feeling a personal connection to her character.

“Judy and I are kindred spirits,” Lopez told Variety. “We both grew up as Latinas in this country, raising children while holding onto big hopes and dreams. We’ve both faced challenging relationships but remained steadfast in protecting our families.”

Despite this emotional connection and critical acclaim, Lopez was absent from the Best Supporting Actress category when the Golden Globe nominations were announced last month. Instead, nominees included Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), and Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana, both for Emilia Perez.

Unstoppable Spirit Off the Screen

Lopez didn’t let the Golden Globes snub dampen her spirits. She spent the holiday season in Aspen, Colorado, surrounded by family and friends. Her celebratory getaway included her mother Guadalupe, sister Lynda, manager Benn Medina, and her teenage twins, Max and Emme, whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

In true Lopez fashion, she turned heads with a stunning Instagram post on Thursday. The On the Floor singer flaunted her toned physique in a black string bikini accented with gold details. Pairing the look with furry boots and a black cowboy hat, Lopez brought a touch of glam to Aspen’s snowy backdrop.

“Back in Aspen,” Lopez captioned the post, which included clips of her enjoying quality time with loved ones and mingling with stars like Kevin Costner during a visit to Kemo Sabe, a renowned local gathering spot.

While Lopez’s performance in Unstoppable may have been overlooked by the Golden Globes, her dedication to her craft and her magnetic screen presence continue to captivate audiences. With its inspiring story and stellar cast, Unstoppable promises to make a powerful impact when it debuts on Prime Video this January.
