Fivio Foreign Appears to Take Shots at Ice Spice Over ‘King of New York’ Debate

Fivio Foreign is making it clear that he isn’t on board with Ice Spice being labeled the “King of New York.” The Brooklyn drill rapper addressed the growing chatter in a fiery new freestyle on On the Radar Radio on Tuesday (March 19), where he took direct aim at the controversial title.

“How can a girl be the King of New York?” Fivio rapped aggressively at the 1:43 mark, adding, “Real n-gga, hood livin’, free Tory, he in good spirits.”

The bold line stirred immediate reactions, both for the gendered comment and the unexpected shout-out to Tory Lanez, who is currently serving time after his legal battle involving Megan Thee Stallion.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Sparks the Debate

The “King of New York” conversation began heating up after A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie praised Ice Spice during a recent appearance on Adin Ross’s podcast last month. When asked about who holds the current title, A Boogie said: “Ice Spice got it right now … I feel like Ice is just wildin’ right now. She got it right now.”

Ross then floated the idea of a collaboration between A Boogie and Ice Spice, to which the rapper responded positively: “For real, though.”

A Boogie also reflected on the “King of New York” label, explaining his take on what it means: “I feel like the people, the fans, make it that. I never really forced that on people. I was never on songs like, ‘I’m the King of New York.’ It was a lot of people that was out here doing that and made people give their opinions. But on my end, that shit just fell in my lap. I’m just doing my thing. I like making fire music. The beauty of it is being able to sell out arenas.”

Ice Spice’s Response

Ice Spice, the Bronx-born star who has taken the rap scene by storm, was clearly flattered by A Boogie’s praise. She shared the moment on her Instagram Stories last month, adding a laughing face emoji and a heart emoji to show her appreciation.

Since her breakthrough with 2022’s viral hit “Munch (Feelin’ U),” Ice Spice has proven her staying power with a string of chart-topping singles. Tracks like “Deli”, “Princess Diana” with Nicki Minaj, and her recent release “Think U the Shit (Fart)” have kept her name at the top of the rap game.

Beyond music, Ice Spice has earned her share of accolades. She won Best New Artist at the 2023 MTV VMAs and Best Breakthrough Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. With her growing influence, many fans argue that she deserves the title of “King of New York.”
