Angelina Jolie Calls Out “Liars” Following Brad Pitt Divorce Settlement
After settling her long-standing divorce with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie opened up about one of her biggest pet peeves—dishonesty. In a candid interview with W Magazine, the Oscar-winning actress did not hold back when discussing her disdain for people who lie, stressing that honesty is a value she holds dear.
Angelina Jolie’s Frustration with Liars
“My pet peeve is somebody who is a liar,” Angelina Jolie shared with W Magazine for their Best Performances issue, released on January 3. “Somebody who feels a need to not say the truth or what they want, what they feel.”
The actress elaborated, explaining that it bothers her when people present themselves as something they’re not or when they say one thing but mean another. “There’s a big version of that—and I’m not trying to be heavy about it—but people who say one thing and mean another, who aren’t completely who they are,” she continued. “I think a lot of people don’t say what they mean.”
While Jolie did not name names, her remarks come at a poignant time, just days after her final divorce settlement with Brad Pitt, with whom she shares six children. The two, who have been involved in a bitter and public divorce since 2016, are now free of their legal entanglements.
The Divorce Settlement and Years of Legal Struggles
The divorce, initially filed by Jolie in 2016, has been marked by several legal battles, including a highly contentious custody dispute over their six children—Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16). Beyond custody, the couple has also clashed over the ownership of their estate and vineyard Château Miraval, which was at the center of one of their legal skirmishes.
Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, recently confirmed that the divorce settlement has been officially signed, saying, “Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.” He added that, since leaving their shared properties, Jolie has focused on healing and finding peace for her family.
Despite this legal victory, the road to resolution has been long and difficult. In 2022, Jolie had dropped her lawsuit against the Department of Justice and the FBI, seeking the release of documents related to an incident with Pitt on a private plane. The fight was over allegations of physical and verbal abuse made by Jolie, which Pitt has vehemently denied. This lawsuit was officially dismissed in September 2023.
A Dark Period and the Return to Acting
In addition to addressing her frustrations with dishonesty, Jolie shared some personal reflections on the time she took away from the public eye. She revealed that she “went very dark” for reasons she preferred not to explain. “I didn’t have a lot of light and life within me,” she admitted, explaining the emotional toll her personal struggles had on her.
Jolie’s return to acting in her portrayal of Maria Callas has been a journey of recovery. She acknowledged the importance of surrounding herself with “kind people” during this period of emotional healing. “Your light’s dim,” she noted, but added that the support of her family, especially her children, has helped her regain balance.
The Role of Family
One of the most significant sources of strength for Angelina Jolie has been her children. The support from her family, particularly her kids, has played a major role in helping her get back on her feet after a turbulent period. Jolie often credits her children for providing emotional stability as she navigates both her personal and professional life.
As Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt move forward, their children remain their top priority. Jolie’s recent comments provide a glimpse into the emotional journey she’s experienced during and after her divorce. Despite the challenges, she continues to push forward, focusing on her career, her healing process, and most importantly, her family.
The world watches as Angelina continues to navigate this chapter, with her commitment to truth and honesty clearly taking center stage in her life.
