Andrew Garfield Addresses Rumors About Returning with Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4

Speculation is swirling around Andrew Garfield’s potential return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 4, alongside Tom Holland, who has been confirmed to reprise his role in the next chapter of Marvel Studios’ iconic franchise.

Garfield, now 41, first donned the Spidey suit in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). Fans were thrilled when he teamed up with Tobey Maguire and Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), where the multiverse storyline brought all three Spider-Men together, solidifying the connection between their universes.

With this multiverse link firmly established, fans can’t help but wonder: will Garfield and Maguire swing back into action in the upcoming sequel?

Andrew Garfield Breaks His Silence

In a candid interview with GQ Magazine, Garfield attempted to address these rumors, though he’s well aware of the skepticism surrounding his denials. After all, he famously denied his involvement in No Way Home for years, only for fans to see him on the big screen when the movie was released.

“I’m going to disappoint you. No, I’m not [returning],” Garfield said. “But I know that from now on, nobody will believe anything I say anymore.”

Still, the actor left the door slightly ajar for future superhero or franchise projects, stating he’d be open to them if the right opportunity came along.

“If it feels aligned with my soul and it would be fun, then maybe. Who knows? By that point, I might have five kids and need to start saving up for their tuition or something,” Garfield joked, flashing his characteristic wit.

Rumours and Denials

Garfield also addressed another persistent rumor about him portraying Jesus Christ in an upcoming Martin Scorsese film. “There’s a rumor about that. As far as I know, it’s not true,” he clarified.

He spoke candidly about the industry’s unpredictability, adding, “I love working, but you can’t just sit around waiting for Scorsese to call. He makes a movie once every three years, and most of the time, it’s got Leo DiCaprio in it.”

Reflecting on the Spider-Man Phenomenon

In October, Garfield admitted that the fame he experienced after taking on the role of Spider-Man was overwhelming.

“I was genuinely terrified by the level of attention,” Garfield revealed, describing his reaction as something of an allergic response to stardom. “I thought, ‘I’m not ready for this level of scrutiny.’”

To cope, Garfield made some dramatic lifestyle changes, including altering his appearance. “I grew this awful beard, wore terrible clothes, and started chasing down paparazzi, trying to talk to them,” he said, laughing.

He even recalled confronting photographers and asking them, “Why do you do this?” during their encounters.

A Return to Cinema

After a three-year hiatus, Garfield made a triumphant return to the big screen last year with the critically acclaimed We Live In Time, starring opposite Florence Pugh.

Currently, he’s in post-production for After the Hunt, directed by Luca Guadagnino, where he shares the screen with Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri.

While Garfield has downplayed the idea of rejoining the Spider-Verse, fans remain hopeful. His chemistry with Holland and Maguire in No Way Home reignited nostalgia for his portrayal of Peter Parker, and with Marvel’s multiverse now in full swing, anything feels possible.

For now, Garfield seems content with balancing high-profile projects and personal fulfillment, hinting at a future where he might prioritize family over franchise blockbusters.

Whether or not we see him don the Spider-Man suit again, one thing is clear: Andrew Garfield continues to captivate audiences with his talent, humor, and authenticity, both on and off the screen.
