Scarlett Johansson Reacts to Colin Jost’s Risqué Jokes About Her on SNL
Colin Jost may be regretting his latest “joke swap” with Michael Che on Saturday Night Live (SNL).
On December 21, Scarlett Johansson tuned in to watch her husband deliver jokes about her during the show’s popular “Weekend Update” segment. The format involves co-hosts reading jokes written by the other, often without prior review or approval.
“I know Michael’s going to make me tell some racist jokes, as he always does,” Jost quipped to the audience beforehand. However, he might have been better prepared for Che’s sharp humour aimed at Jost’s A-list wife.
A Birthday Joke Gone Awry
Jost began by introducing a joke with a personal touch: “I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson.” The camera then panned to the Marvel star, watching the broadcast nervously from outside the studio.
“She’s really worried,” Jost remarked, a comment that soon made perfect sense.
“Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to trade her in,” Jost began reluctantly. He quickly added, “No, I’m kidding. We just had a kid together, and no one’s seen a photo of him yet because he’s super Black.”
The joke prompted an immediate reaction from Johansson, who shook her head and exclaimed, “Oh my god!”
A Second Joke Escalates the Situation
If the first joke had her groaning, the next one went even further. While details of the joke about roast beef sandwiches and oral sex may best be left unsaid, Johansson’s reaction was anything but subtle.
“Oh my god!” she exclaimed again, visibly flustered. The camera captured her seemingly ready to say more before stopping herself with another incredulous, “Oh my god!”
A Relationship Rooted in SNL
SNL has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in the couple’s relationship. Johansson herself acknowledged the show’s significance during her sixth hosting stint in 2019.
“I just want to say this place means so much to me,” she said at the time. “I have so many friends here, and I met the love of my life here.”
The pair first crossed paths during one of Johansson’s hosting gigs in 2006 or 2010, depending on who’s telling the story. However, they didn’t start dating until 2017. After marrying in 2020, they welcomed their son, Cosmo, in 2021. Johansson also has a 10-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac.
Jost’s SNL Co-Hosts Weigh In
SNL castmate Michael Che has frequently joked about the relationship, even claiming it changed Jost. During a 2018 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Che teased that Jost became less social after dating Johansson.
“I feel like you’ve changed. You don’t invite me out anymore,” Che remarked. When Jost pointed out that Che also didn’t extend invitations, Che shot back, “Yeah, because if you’re dating Scarlett Johansson, I don’t want to ask you to come to some dive bar with me to watch a Yankees game. I figure you’ve got better things to do.”
The Couple’s Chemistry Shines Through
Despite the sometimes risqué humor at her expense, Johansson’s affection for Jost remains evident. While her reactions on SNL might seem mortified, they reflect the playful, lighthearted banter that defines their relationship.
As Jost navigates the line between comedy and married life, fans can’t help but enjoy the couple’s dynamic—both on and off the SNL stage. Here’s to hoping Scarlett gets her revenge with some jokes of her own!
