On October 27, 2024, the success of “APT.” by Rosé and Bruno Mars has brought the 1982 hit “Apartment” by Yoon Soo Il back into the spotlight. This marks the first time the classic song has entered the MelOn charts since its release.

“Apartment” has achieved a remarkable ranking of 951 on the daily chart of MelOn, thanks to the revival created by “APT.” The renewed interest in this over 40-year-old song has been attributed to the streaming boost since Rosé released “APT.” on October 18. Similarly, streaming on another music platform, Genie, saw a 190% increase in the week following the release of “APT.”

“Apartment” has long been regarded as a “national folk song” since its debut in 1982, remaining popular in sports events like football and basketball games. The song has been covered by various artists, including Kim Gun Mo and DJ DOC, with a recent cover by Lim Young Woong at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul. Yoon Soo Il expressed his joy during a call on MBC Standard FM’s Trot Radio with Son Tae Jin on October 23. He praised Rosé and Bruno Mars, stating, “It’s amazing that their song is attracting attention while sharing the same theme of ‘apartment’ globally. Although trends and societal moods have changed significantly over the past 40 years, “APT.” has a catchy, addictive melody, just like my song did when it topped the noraebang (karaoke) charts for ten years.”

Currently, “APT.” is proving to be a major success not only globally but also within South Korea, dominating real-time and daily charts on platforms such as MelOn, Genie, Bugs, and Vibe, achieving the Perfect All-Kill (PAK) status.
