Kieran Culkin Reveals Why He Won't Let His Kids Watch Home Alone

Kieran Culkin Reveals Why He Won’t Let His Kids Watch Home Alone

Kieran Culkin has opened up about why he hasn’t let his children watch the classic Christmas movie Home Alone, in which he starred alongside his brother, Macaulay Culkin.

Macaulay became a global sensation at just 11 years old for his role in the 1990 comedy, playing Kevin McCallister, a resourceful kid left home alone to fend off two burglars, portrayed by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

Meanwhile, a 7-year-old Kieran played Fuller, Kevin’s bed-wetting cousin, in a minor but memorable role.

A Career Shift for Kieran Culkin

Kieran has since carved out a name for himself, particularly through his role in the hit HBO series Succession, where he plays one of the cunning children of media mogul Logan Roy (Brian Cox).

He’s been married to Jazz Charton since 2013, and together they have two children: Kinsey, 5, and Wilder, 3.

Why Home Alone Is Off-Limits for His Kids

Despite Home Alone being a beloved Christmas movie for children worldwide, Kieran recently shared why his own kids haven’t seen it yet.

Speaking at the 34th Annual Gotham Awards in New York City, he told E! News:

“There are still some scary scenes. For a 3-year-old, there’s the tarantula and the guy at the end saying, ‘I’m going to bite all your fingers off.’ That’s terrifying for a little kid.”

However, Kieran hinted that this might change soon: “We think they could be ready for Home Alone this year. If not, then definitely next year.”

Macaulay Culkin’s Parenting Approach

While Kieran has been cautious, Macaulay Culkin and his fiancée, Brenda Song, have already introduced Home Alone to their eldest son, Dakota, who is 3 years old. They also share another son, Carson, who is 22 months old.

Macaulay revealed that Dakota found the movie hilarious even at the age of one. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in December 2023, he said:

“I showed him the movie last year, and he thought it was really funny. I even convinced him he was the kid in the movie. I told him, ‘Remember the blonde kid? That’s you!’ And he was like, ‘Yeah!’ Total liar, though. He doesn’t remember anything.”

Reflections on Fame

Kieran also recalled the overwhelming nature of fame for Macaulay during his Home Alone years.

“Even as a kid, I remember thinking, ‘That’s rough for him.’ Poor guy. He was so young and had to deal with that level of fame,” he shared in an interview with Esquire.

Kieran’s own career skyrocketed with his portrayal of Roman Roy in Succession. The show, which aired on HBO from 2018 to 2023, earned a loyal following and won multiple awards, including 19 Emmys.

The show featured a stellar cast, including Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Matthew Macfadyen, and Nicholas Braun.

Macaulay has also returned to acting in recent years. He appeared in HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones, Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story: Double Feature, and voiced a character in the animated show The Second Best Hospital In The Galaxy.

While both Culkin brothers have pursued different paths in their careers, they remain household names, each building their own legacies in Hollywood.
