Rapper Lil Durk will have to wait even longer for his day in court, as his highly anticipated murder-for-hire trial has been delayed until late 2025. Originally set to begin on January 7, 2025, the trial has now been rescheduled to commence on October 14, 2025, according to court documents obtained by legal journalist Meghann Cuniff on New Year’s Eve.
Why the Delay?
The case was deemed “complex,” with prosecutors citing the sheer volume of evidence as a major reason for the postponement. This includes approximately 230 GB of digital evidence, such as audio and video recordings, surveillance footage, and 20,000 pages of reports. These documents reportedly cover murder investigations, acts of violence, photographs, witness testimonies, and medical records.
One of Lil Durk’s co-defendants, Asa “Boogie” Houston, opposed the trial delay, while another, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, is rumored to be considering a plea deal. The complexity of the case, combined with the massive amount of evidence, has left the defense and prosecution grappling with how to proceed efficiently.
Legal Troubles Deepen
This postponement comes on the heels of a recent hearing where Durk (real name: Durk Banks) was denied bail due to allegations of criminal behavior and interference while in custody. Prosecutors presented evidence that Durk had violated rules at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Los Angeles, specifically abusing the phone system by engaging in unauthorized three-way calls.
The court brief explicitly stated:
“Despite clear guidance not to engage in three-way calls, the defendant repeatedly misused the MDC phone system to do so.”
At the bail hearing, the judge sided with prosecutors and upheld the decision to keep Durk in custody pending trial.
Ties to Gang Violence in Chicago
Adding another layer of complexity, prosecutors have linked Lil Durk to the 2022 murder of Stephon Mack, an alleged leader of the Gangster Disciples in Chicago. While this accusation is separate from the murder-for-hire charges, it paints a troubling picture of Durk’s alleged involvement in organized violence.
Court documents allege that Durk financed the shooting of Mack in retaliation for the 2021 murder of his brother, Dontay “DThang” Banks. DThang was killed outside a nightclub in Harvey, Illinois, in an incident that shocked the hip-hop community.
A federal agent wrote in an April 2023 filing, which was only made public on December 11:
“Lil Durk has and continues to pay individuals to kill those responsible for his brother’s murder. More specifically, he has offered money for the death of any Gangster Disciple member.”
While Durk has not been formally charged in connection with Mack’s murder, law enforcement sources told the Chicago Tribune that the investigation remains active.

The mounting allegations have put the 31-year-old rapper’s career and freedom in jeopardy. Known for hits like “Laugh Now Cry Later” and “All My Life,” Lil Durk has cultivated a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most influential voices. However, these charges threaten to overshadow his musical achievements.
Durk’s involvement in the murder-for-hire plot and alleged connections to gang violence have fueled public speculation and legal scrutiny. His defence team, meanwhile, continues to maintain his innocence, arguing that the evidence presented is circumstantial and insufficient to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
